Boston Engineering and Laser Photonics Announce Partnership To Equip Naval Robotic Crawler With Laser Technology

August 5, 2024

Waltham, MA

Boston Engineering Corporation (Boston Engineering), a product design and engineering consulting company, and Laser Photonics Corporation (LPC) (NASDAQ: LASE), a leading global developer of industrial laser systems, are excited to announce a partnership to integrate laser technologies into robotic platforms for the naval defense industry.

Boston Engineering is renowned for developing unmanned vehicles that perform tasks traditionally handled by humans, resulting in systems that enhance operational efficiency and precision in the maritime industry. These technologies not only expedite operational tasks but also protect individuals from injury while extending detection, inspection, and repair capabilities. In collaboration with LPC, Boston Engineering aims to enhance robotic crawler technology with advanced laser tools.

By incorporating LPC’s cutting-edge laser technologies, the robotic crawler will scale ship hulls and other structures to optimize and/or automate tasks such as corrosion removal, contamination cleaning, and other material processing safely and effectively, even in hard-to-reach and hazardous areas.

Mark Smithers, CTO and co-founder of Boston Engineering, remarked, “There’s a big push in the naval defense space for automation. The addition of LPC technology to our robotic crawler gives us another potent asset in our arsenal. Laser cleaning is highly time and labor efficient for optimizing maintenance and repair. We look forward to equipping our crawler with laser power through this partnership.”

This integration will offer a definitive solution for professionals in the defense, maritime, shipbuilding, and boat maintenance/repair industries, providing a viable and safe method for surface preparation, cleaning, decontamination, and restoration.
