Waltham, Mass – Boston Engineering is proud to announce its selection as an engineering partner supporting ongoing research into the potential of xenobots, amphibian based biological “robots” (biobots) being developed to act as biosensors.
In collaboration with Tufts University, the University of Vermont (UVM), and a professional ethicist, Boston Engineering is designing an automated system for scaling Tufts’ biobot experiments and production. The system will interface with UVM’s AI, which will be informing and advancing biobot design to achieve desired functionality.
“Boston Engineering is developing the automated robotic scientist, which uses various stimuli to program the biobots,” says CTO Mark Smithers. The resulting performance will be sent to and used by an AI system to analyze and suggest additional development steps to enhance or change the results. The new recipe is then sent back to the robotic system and the process starts again.
“AI driven discovery will eliminate hours of hands-on management of the stimulation process and increase the throughput of experiments during development – ultimately, streamlining efforts to scale biobot production,” according to Smithers.
Boston Engineering’s selection builds on their expertise in Robotics and Complex Systems Engineering.
